Frequently asked questions
All FAQs →- Is there a map of all NS Walks?
- Yes. Trail Tally shows all 46 NS Wandelingen on one interactive map of the Netherlands, with each route running between Dutch railway stations. Open the Map page to explore the full network and see which walks you've completed.
- What are the NS Wandelingen ("NS Walks")?
- The NS Wandelingen ("NS Walks") are 46 official signposted walking routes published by Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch national railway. Each walk starts and ends at a railway station or public-transport stop, so you can travel to the trailhead by train and walk back to a station at the end — no car needed.
- How many NS Walks are there and how long are they?
- There are 46 official NS Wandelingen, together covering roughly 600 km across all twelve Dutch provinces. Individual walks range from about 8 km to over 20 km, with most sitting between 12 and 18 km — a comfortable day on foot.
- Are the NS Walks free?
- Yes. The route descriptions and signposting are free — you only pay for your train journey to the start and back from the end. A day return or off-peak (Dal) discount is usually the cheapest option.
- Can I download GPX tracks for the NS Walks?
- Yes. Every walk page on Trail Tally links to the official NS detail page and, where available, the Wandelnet GPX/route download. Trail Tally does not redistribute the route files itself.
- Do I need an account to use Trail Tally?
- No. You can tick walks off without signing in — your progress is stored in your browser. Creating a free account syncs your progress across devices and prevents you losing it if you clear your browser data.
- Is Trail Tally affiliated with NS?
- No. Trail Tally is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen). All route information is provided for personal, non-commercial use.
