Tussen Lek en Linge

CulemborgBeesd

Between the Lek and the Linge lies an unknown part of the Netherlands that almost no one knows, with nature reserves such as Vretstrooi and Leidsche Hoeven. A missed opportunity, because you can walk there in peace on unpaved paths. The more famous Mariënwaerdt estate also has a lot to offer hikers. A surprising route!

Description

A special walk through the wet, low-lying lands between two rivers: the Lek and the Linge. The Lek flows north of Culemborg. Because you leave the city on the south side, you unfortunately don't get to see the Lek. The only residential area in Culemborg, directly opposite the station, is immediately a special one: an eco-district where everything revolves around sustainability, energy saving, and green management.

Quiet asphalt roads lead you to wooded plots and open polder land with beautiful unpaved paths. The route ends at the ancient Mariënwaerdt estate with forests, fields, stately avenues, and the lazily winding Linge.

This route is for the adventurous hiker who sees narrow bridges and muddy paths (especially during and after rainy periods) as a challenge. There are few benches and few catering establishments along the way. Therefore, bring enough food and drinks yourself.

Tip: combine this route with the NS-walk Waterlinie Culemborg and make it a 2-day trip with an overnight stay in Culemborg.
