Duinen van Zoutelande

Some past NS hikes deserve to be included in the package again. Kaapduinen is one such route. In 1999, this route was discontinued. And now, more than twenty years later, it's back!

For most people, Vlissingen is a bit of a journey. A good reason, therefore, to make it a weekend in Walcheren. There is no shortage of accommodation addresses along the Zeeland coast.

Via the boulevard of Vlissingen you walk to the Nollestrand. On top of the high dune tops – which are among the highest in our country – you can enjoy beautiful views over the busy Westerschelde. On the other side of the dunes lies the vast land of Walcheren. The church tower of Middelburg and the lighthouse of Westkapelle are already visible.

Due to the fine sand and steep paths up and down, this walk – even for experienced hikers – is quite tiring. Some level of fitness is therefore required.

You travel by train to Vlissingen; the endpoints Zoutelande (13 km) and Westkapelle (19 km) are at bus stops. In Zoutelande you walk to stop Nieuwstraat, in Westkapelle to stop Markt.

Bus line 53 runs every hour (on Sundays once every 2 hours) from Westkapelle via Zoutelande to Middelburg. In the opposite direction, line 53 runs via Zoutelande and Westkapelle to Domburg, where it connects to line 52 to Middelburg. This way you can travel to Middelburg twice an hour on weekdays (once an hour directly and once an hour via Domburg) and once an hour on Sundays (once every 2 hours directly and once every 2 hours via Domburg).
