From Delft Campus station, you first follow the Delftsche Schie, a waterway that has been important for centuries. After just over 1 km, you turn your back on the canal and find yourself in the middle of nature. Bridges, boardwalks, and grassy paths with tall reeds lead you through forests, meadows, and parks.

But the city is getting closer. After 13 km, you can take the train in Schiedam, but then you'll miss the historic center where much reminds of jenever distillation.

Therefore, walk a little further and visit the Jenevermuseum, a distillery, or a windmill. And for those who really can't resist: taste one of the 400 types of jenever in the café of the Borrelmuseum. There's a good chance you'll want to end the route afterward. No problem, because buses and trams depart from the Koemarkt.

You can also continue walking to Rotterdam. Then you'll pass the Merwehaven with long quays and large warehouses. And past the Sparta stadium, better known to connoisseurs as 'Het Kasteel'. You end at Rotterdam Centraal station, the city's showpiece.

The walk goes from Delft Campus station via Schiedam Centrum station to Rotterdam Centraal station. Up to Schiedam Centrum station, the route is 13 km. Those who walk on to Rotterdam Centraal cover 19 km. It is also possible to walk only from Schiedam to Rotterdam (8 km).

Those who want to experience the historic center of Schiedam and the jenever should bypass Schiedam station. Don't feel like walking on to Rotterdam? Follow the Lange Haven and at its end, at the Koemarkt, take a bus or tram. The route is then 13 km long (the same length as to Schiedam Centrum station). From bus/tram stop Koemarkt, tram 21 runs to Rotterdam Centraal multiple times per hour. Regional bus 54 runs to Schiedam Centrum station, twice an hour daily.
