Boxtel → Best
Beyond the village of Lennisheuvel, all signs of habitation suddenly disappear. Walking alongside a stream, through quiet forests and estates, you'll find complete tranquility. With a bit of luck, in nature reserve De Scheeken, you might even come face to face with a red deer. But even without such a 'wild' encounter, this walk is definitely worthwhile.

Description
'Absolutely surprising!', was the comment of the scout for this new NS-hike. Forests, estates, beautiful unpaved paths, what a variety!
Admittedly, the start in Boxtel could be nicer. An industrial park is not an environment a hiker dreams of. But it quickly improves thereafter, and beyond Lennisheuvel, you'll only be walking on unpaved paths. That also has a downside: after rainy periods, the paths can be muddy. So wear sturdy walking shoes.
The route is named after National Landscape Het Groene Woud, a government-designated green area with a unique combination of nature, agriculture, housing, and small-scale businesses.
By the way, the red deer also likes to live here. Many red deer used to live in Brabant, and now they are back! In early 2017, a small group of animals was released into the De Scheeken nature reserve, in the hope that they would multiply. The chance of encountering a red deer is greatest at dusk.
Bring enough food and drink, as there are few catering establishments along the way.
Route
The walk goes from Boxtel station to Best station and is 14.5 km long. It is not possible to shorten the route.
